Configure DNS for Active Directory

Active Directory also uses the DNS service and site, and enable computers to find the location of the domain controllers. To find a domain controller in a particular area, a client queries the DNS for resource records that provide the names and IP addresses of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) service to this area. This protocol is the protocol used to query and update Active Directory, and all domain controllers run the service LDAP. You can not install Active Directory without DNS on the network, because the Active Directory also uses the DNS service and site. However, you can install DNS on the unit without Active Directory.
