Install active directory on your computer

In fact, part of this lesson, you can use the Active Directory Installation Wizard to install Active Directory on your computer, to enhance your computer to the domain controller, create the domain. Then you consider your domain by using My Network Places and the Active Directory Users and Computers console. Finally, you use the DNS console to make sure that the system of domain names for your service works.

Hybrid

You also learn about hybrid, an original media area. Mixed-mode allows for compatibility with earlier versions of Windows NT. Native mode is used only when all domain controllers in the domain running Windows 2000 server. Note that SERVER1 appears in the details pane. If you do not use the server name SERVER1, the system of domain names for the name of your server appears in the details pane.

Active Directory uses the Domain Name System

I learned how to use Active Directory DNS service location, and to enable computers to find the location of domain controllers. You can not install Active Directory without DNS on the network, because the Active Directory also uses the DNS service and site. You can configure Windows 2000 DNS server automatically using the Active Directory Installation Wizard. However, if you use a DNS server other than Windows 2000 or want to perform a special configuration, do not need to manually configure the DNS to support Active Directory.

The Active Directory database

In addition, you learned about the Active Directory database, which is a guide to this new area, and the database log files. The default location for the database and log files, the database is systemroot \ forgotten. You also learn about a common system the size of this active directory created during installation. He shares the system is the size of a folder structure located on all Windows 2000 domain controllers. Store manuscripts and some Group Policy objects in each of the current domain and projects. The default location for the shared system volume is systemroot \ SYSVOL.

Configure your server

On this page I learned about installing the Active Directory, including the operation of Windows 2000 and configure your server to start the Active Directory Installation Wizard. You can also go to a command prompt and type DCPROMO to launch the Active Directory Installation Wizard. You can use the Active Directory Installation Wizard to add a domain controller to existing domain, to create the first domain controller in a new field, to create a new child domain, and to create a new domain tree. You also learned how Active Directory Installation Wizard can be used to remove Active Directory from the domain controller.

Training: Active Directory Installation

In this practice to install Active Directory on a stand-alone server, which will make it a domain controller for the new domain. In Exercise 1 you can use the DCPROMO and Active Directory Installation Wizard to install Active Directory. In Exercise 2 you view the domain you created. In Exercise 3 you made to the Active Directory Users and Computers console. In Exercise 4 to make sure that the DNS service to work.

Remove Active Directory Services from the domain controller

Run DCPROMO from the Run dialog box on the existing domain controller allows you to remove Active Directory from a domain controller, and thus reducing on a member server. If the domain controller is the last domain controller in the domain, and will become a stand-alone server. If you remove the active directory of all domain controllers in the domain, you can also delete the directory database for this area, and the area no longer exists. Computers and joined to this domain are no longer able to log on to the domain or use the services of the domain.

Mixed-mode and native mode

When all domain controllers in a domain running Windows 2000 server, and you do not plan to add any more by Windows 2000 domain controllers to the domain, you can switch the domain from mixed mode to native mode. During the conversion process from mixed mode to native mode. • Support for Windows 2000 before replication stops. Because before Windows 2000 is a repetition of gold, you can no longer have any domain controllers in your domain that does not work Windows 2000 server. • You can no longer add a new pre-Windows 2000 domain controllers to the domain. • The server, who served as the primary domain controller during migration is no longer the main area; all domain controllers start out as his peers.

Database and the shared system volume

Install the Active Directory database and the establishment of the database log files, as well as the size of the shared system. Replication of the shared system volume occurs on the same date of a repeat of Active Directory. As a result, you may not notice a repeat of a file or a newly established system size even repeated periods elapsed (usually 10 minutes). Because this is the first file, repeat the configuration updates and other system volumes so as to be aware of the size of the newly established system.

Configure Windows 2000

You can configure Windows 2000 DNS server automatically using the Active Directory Installation Wizard. However, if you use a DNS server other than Windows 2000 or want to perform a special configuration, do not need to manually configure the DNS to support Active Directory. However, if you want to set up and configure non-default configuration that the Active Directory Installation Wizard places, you can manually configure the DNS using the DNS console. Manually configure the DNS is outside the scope of this course; refer to the MCSE Training Kit Microsoft Windows 2000 Management of the network infrastructure, for more information about this topic.

Configure DNS for Active Directory

Active Directory also uses the DNS service and site, and enable computers to find the location of the domain controllers. To find a domain controller in a particular area, a client queries the DNS for resource records that provide the names and IP addresses of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) service to this area. This protocol is the protocol used to query and update Active Directory, and all domain controllers run the service LDAP. You can not install Active Directory without DNS on the network, because the Active Directory also uses the DNS service and site. However, you can install DNS on the unit without Active Directory.

Add and create a domain controller to an existing domain

If you choose to add a domain controller for an existing domain, you can create a domain controller peer. You can create a peer domain controllers for redundancy and to reduce the load on the existing domain controllers. If you choose to create the first domain controller in a new area, you can create a new domain. You can create areas on your network to the section of your information, which enables you the scope of Active Directory to meet the needs of your organization. When you create a new domain, you can create a new child domain or new tree. Establishment of the area of children and create a new a new domain tree.

Installation Wizard

To launch the Active Directory Installation Wizard, run the configure your server in the Administrative Tools menu from the Start menu, or run DCPROMO from the command prompt. These two methods will run the Active Directory Installation Wizard on a separate server and help you through the process of installing Active Directory on your computer and create a new domain controller. As you install Active Directory, you can choose whether you want to add a new domain controller in an existing domain or create the first domain controller for a new domain.

Provides information on installing

This page provides information on installing and removing Active Directory, including the use of Active Directory Installation Wizard. In addition, the study addresses a common database and storage system that creates the Active Directory during the installation and setting up DNS for Active Directory. Finally, the lesson discusses the Status area.
